What’s the UK’s top must-do travel experience?
When it comes to a list of things British travellers most want to do with their holiday money, getting their kicks from a road trip down Route 66 in the US ranks very high.
The same can be said of a wish to take in the natural wonders on offer while diving or snorkelling on Australia’s Great Barrier Reef.
New research from the Discovery Channel shows a new list of must-do travel experiences, topped by a visit to Norway’s North Cape inside the Arctic Circle to see the spectacular Northern Lights – also known as Aurora Borealis.
Members of the public voted a trip to see the Northern Lights as their ultimate travel experience, after a panel of experts – including adventurer and TV presenter Bear Grylls – compiled a shortlist of relevant contenders.
Visiting Stonehenge during the Summer Solstice was the highest placed British travel experience. It was ranked at number 18, suggesting that most people will have to fly off to a foreign destination to fulfil their travel dreams.
On the top of many Brits’ lists for travel this summer will be Rio for the World Cup.
A recent survey from ICE found that almost 1 in 4 Brits would pay up to £500 for a ticket to one of the games.
