More selfies have been taken by holidaymakers at the Eiffel Tower than any other tourist attraction in the world, according to a new study.
AttractionTix, a website that offers deals on tickets for global attractions, compiled the data of photos of popular sites for tourists on social media with the word selfie tagged to them – more than 219 million images in total.
It found 10,700 posts of self-portraits featuring the Paris tower since the start of the year, more than the number of selfies taken at Disney World, Florida, and Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, the tallest building on the planet, in second and third place respectively.
Britain’s Big Ben was included in more than 8,000 selfie posts and came in at fourth place, while the rest of the top 10 is made up of New York’s Empire State Building, the unfinished Sagrada Familia church in Barcelona, Disneyland Paris, Rome’s Colosseum, New York’s Rockefeller Center and London Bridge.
The Leaning Tower of Pisa, the Vatican, the Statue of Liberty and Sydney Opera House did not make the top 10.
Singer John Legend and actress and singer Selena Gomez are among the stars who have been seen taking selfies in front of the Eiffel Tower.
