Brits lacking knowledge on Brazil
Brazil is undoubtedly the place to holiday this summer – yet third of Britons seem to be lacking knowledge on how to locate it on a map.
The South American country, which is playing host to the biggest football tournament on the planet over the next month or so, was mistaken for the likes of Argentina, Peru and Uruguay by geographically-challenged Brits.
Some 30% of the 2,000 people polled by Hotels.com were unable to locate Brazil when presented with a world map, while a further 54% were also unaware that the mother tongue of Brazilians is Portuguese.
As many as 28% thought locals in Brazil spoke Spanish, while 2% plumped for Mexican and 1% reckoned English.
The survey also reveals that 15% of Brits assumed Brazilians spoke Brazilian -a language which doesn’t actually exist – while 1% mistook Brazil for China on a map, despite the fact it is on the other side of the world.
